Paradise Harbor is the location of the Presidente Gabriel González Videla station manned by 4 Navy and 2 Air Force personnel from Chile. They have a very small souvenir shop. Since the MV Discovery had assisted them with food and communications on a previous trip we had the privilege of seeing the inside of their quarters. Although this is a favorite place for Zodiac cruising, we were able to land and get up-close-and-personal with more Gentoo penguins. This time the Gentoo penguin rookery was in, around and on parts of the station. The station is located on Waterboat Point, which appears to be an island, but is only separated from the Antarctica mainland at high tide. We were actually on the Antarctic continent, not on an island like at Port Lockroy. We arrived at 7:00am and the weather got better as the day went on.
