Paradise Harbor ANTARCTIC Half Moon Island

Cuverville Island was where we were scheduled to have a zodiac boat ride among the ice bergs.  Since it was snowing then we came back and the Discovery sailed through this area.  As you can see it was not to be missed.

The actual Cuverville Island lies at the end of the Errera Channel.  It was discovered in 1898-1899 by Belgian explorer lieutenant Adrien de Gerlache.

Cuverville Island has the largest Gentoo penguin colony on the Antarctica Peninsula with about 5,000 pairs.  We did not get close enough to see them.
