Andes

This South American country is located on the western side of the continent and shares the island of Tierra del Fuego with Argentina.  It is very long and narrow.  The Andes mountains form the border between Chile and Argentina.

  • Beagle Channel - This channel is in front of Ushuaia, Argentina and separates Argentina (on the north) and Chile (on the south).  It was the beginning of the Chilean Fjords and included the Garibaldi Glacier.
  • Punta Arenas - Our first excursion in Chile we visited a Penguin Reserve and the city highlights.
  • Chilean Fjords - Between Punta Arenas and Puerto Chacabuco we sailed around the islands, through the channels, and viewed the glaciers and waterfalls that make up the Chilean Fjords.
  • Puerto Chacabuco - An excursion through a portion of the Andes mountain range we saw waterfalls close up.
  • Puerto Montt - Traveling past lakes and onto a catamaran we experienced more of Chile and its scenery.
  • Santiago - We reached Chile's capital city after our voyage.  We were able to see the sights and experience some South American hospitality.
  • Andes Mountains - A day long trip was worth the drive up into the Andes.  We not only saw the tallest Andes mountain, but went up 28 consecutive curves to reach a ski area with a glacial lake for lunch.
